With skepticism in science on the rise, Scientists Inc. a local non-profit is encouraging scientists, researchers, and other thought leaders to step into neighborhood venues to discuss the ways science effects our daily lives. Spanning April 22 through 28, speakers in Orlando, Tampa, and St. Petersburg Florida will lead over 30 engaging talks in neighborhood bars, restaurants, parks, and more.

The Florida Consortium of Metropolitan Research Universities, a collaboration between Florida International University, University of Central Florida and University of South Florida, signed on to sponsor taste of science events in the Sunshine State. According to Dr. Michael Preston, executive director of the Florida Consortium “It is important to flood news outlets and the community at large with evidence and latest research. Of course, scientists, researchers, and thought leaders currently share their findings in traditional professional forums. However they also need to bring their findings to the community in order to contribute to public opinion.”

taste of science Tampa Bay & St. Petersburg:

Not to be undone, and at the same time, the taste of science will take place April 22 through April 28 on both sides of Tampa Bay. Topics include the technology of baseball, a scientific look at offender profiling, to threats and harmful algae blooms and more.

According to Scientist Inc. CEO, Parmvir Bahia “Science doesn’t stand apart from society, it’s a part of it. We established the taste of science festival because we thought local communities should not only care about the research taking place in their back yards, but that they might be inspired by it.”
