The Art of Teaching: Evolving for Changing Audiences and Technologies

Called the Sunshine Teaching and Learning Conference, this three-day event was held at Lake Buena Vista near the Walt Disney World Resort and brought over 150 faculty from all over the United States. Using an agenda developed by the University of Central Florida’s Director of the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning, Dr. Kevin Yee, there were dozens of interest, educational, and poster sessions. Faculty learned best practices in online learning, new pedagogy, course design, learning styles, active learning, and more! The participants learned from more than 30 faculty members from all over the United States.

College is No Longer a Linear Experience for Most College Students: Lessons Learned During a Three-University Transfer Success Tour

In our effort to build the most efficient and functional articulation technology possible, Florida Consoritum of Metropolitan Research Universities members on the Ariculation Platform Technology development committee traveled to Arizona and Kentucky to review many of the best practices rolling out for transfer success across the United States. The week-long tour gave us a chance to review and better understand how the University of Arizona consolidated student success programs both administratively and physically in its student success district.

Florida Metropolitan STEM Continuum: From College to Career

Thee Florida Consortium of Metropolitan Research Universities, a partnership between Florida International University, University of Central Florida, and University of South Florida received a $1.5 million grant from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust to support the Florida Metropolitan STEM Continuum: From College to Career program. For 18 months, faculty from FIU, UCF, USF, educators from regional community colleges, and business leaders worked together to minimize barriers to persisting in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields of study. They identified untapped career readiness opportunities with faculty and alternative ways to prepare students for the workforce.
