Florida Metropolitan STEM Continuum: From College to Career Summit One

September 8, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

The Florida Consortium will lead this kickoff summit for the College to Career Summit for Network Improvement Communities (NIC). The College to Career program is focused on issues related to transfer students, employ-ability, and teaching strategies.  During the College to Career Summit faculty and staff from Florida International University, University of Central Florida and University of South Florida, Florida Consortium member institutions, will network with their colleagues, learn about programs and services on their campuses and discuss areas where students are struggling in order to develop collaborative solutions.  The summit agenda is posted below:

5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Cocktails with Embodied Labs, Da Vinci Meeting Room
Join us for refreshments, appetizers, networking with colleagues and to engage with experts from Embodied Labs as they demonstrate ways to use Virtual Reality (VR) technology as teaching tool.

Friday, September 8th

8:00 AM – 9:00 AM, Breakfast and Introduction to VR Technology, Continental Ballroom 1&3
Join us for breakfast to network with colleagues and engage with experts from Embodied Labs as they demonstrate ways to use Virtual Reality (VR) technology as teaching tool. Summit contributors will have an opportunity to participate in VR experiences, pose questions, and discuss ways VR technology can fuel classroom engagement and learning.

9:00 AM – 9:30 AM, Opening Plenary Session, Continental Ballroom 1&3
Official opening to the College to Career Summit. Michael Preston, Ed. D., Executive Director of the Florida Consortium along with members of the College to Career Steering Committee will provide the overview of the day.

9:30 AM – 10:30 AM, Morning Breakout Session, Regency Meeting Rooms D, E, & F
Network Improvement Communities (NIC) will gather to discuss progress to date. During this session data, literature, and suggestions for further study will be provided and reviewed. Each NIC will prepare a summary for the Plenary Reporting Session.

10:30 AM – 11:30 AM, Plenary Reporting Session, Continental Ballroom 1&3
General reconvening to review efforts and findings to date per each NIC. This session is an opportunity to make thematic connections or discover meta-issues for further consideration

11:30 AM – 12:00 PM Introduction to Cycle 2, Continental Ballroom 1&3
Cycle 2 workbook and general timelines will be presented during this session.

12:00 PM – 1:00 PM, Luncheon, Lobby North
Contributors will connect with their campus delegations

1:00 PM – 2:30 PM, Afternoon Breakout Session, Regency Meeting Rooms D, E, & F
Strategy session devoted to determining next steps and assistance required to facilitate Cycle 2 deliverables and goals. Steering committee members will be on hand to provide guidance and recommendations. This session is designed to help contributors look ahead and coalesce around a few meta-topics in order to design a scalable solution.

2:30 PM – 3:30 PM, Afternoon Plenary, Continental Ballroom 1&3
The final convening will be devoted to discussing Cycle 2 plans, timing, and deliverables

3:30 PM – 3:45 PM, Closing Remarks
