Last year, Governor Rick Scott challenged Florida’s universities to make sure students receiving degrees in the most popular majors landed full time jobs within one year of graduation. He further challenged educators to strive for 100% employment for their two most popular majors. At the same time, local politicians have been increasingly critical of certain fields of study and particularly vocal about psychology. According to Josh Logue of Inside Higher Ed “Psychology ranks as one of the top two programs at six of the state’s 10 universities. And indeed, National Center for Education Statistics data show psychology to be one of the five most popular undergraduate areas of study nationwide, alongside business and the social sciences.”
Burning Glass Technologies and the Florida Consortium of Metropolitan Research Universities took a look at both Psychology and Biology majors and what students could do to stand out from the crowd.
